✳ Mark Zuckerberg Blames Biden for 'Government Pressure' To Censor Facebook

The Meta CEO says his platforms will not blindly obey the bureaucrats again.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told the House Judiciary Committee that his company's moderators faced significant pressure from the federal government to censor content on Facebook and Instagram—and that he regretted caving to it. In a letter to Rep. Jim Jordan (R–Ohio), the committee's chairman, Zuckerberg explained that the pressure also applied to "humor and satire" and that in the future, Meta would not blindly obey the bureaucrats.

"I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it," wrote Zuckerberg. "We're ready to pushback if something like this happens again."

Deregulation of biotechnology will contain provisions that take away our basic human rights of choice. They will change the face of our small island nation forever – yes, forever, Dr, Guy Hatchard says.

According to their vaudeville performance, biotechnology deregulation will enable amazing scientists to mitigate climate change, improve our health, boost our horticulture, and grow our economy. Collins effused “it is so great to be part of this government.”Luxon agreed, calling it “an amazing day.” As he sees it, some laws formulated in 1996 to protect consumers make no sense in 2024 because they prevent incredibly smart biotechnology scientists from releasing their products into the environment without having to go through public scrutiny.

Luxon added, “We’re going to make sure we do it safely, don’t worry about that” (at this point Luxon appeared to be channelling Jacinda Ardern). It would be easy to poke fun, but the consequences are too far-reaching and serious for levity. The 1996 laws do not prevent biotech food products from reaching the market as Luxon implied. Instead, they require that gene-altered ingredients be labelled as such. In other words, Luxon is taking away our right of consumer choice, our right to know what we are eating. In the near future “incredibly smart scientists” will be deciding for us.

Aside from our right to know, there is one other very important reason for the 1996 law. It involves one word “traceability.” If novel gene-altered food substitutes are not labelled, there will be no way for anyone to find out if they are causing illness. Compulsory food labelling has been a fundamental part of our global food safety system since it was first introduced in 1913. Bypassing this principle is a key strategy of biotech marketing for the simple reason that consumers don’t want biotech foods and manufacturers don’t want to face lawsuits. Thus, in one stroke Luxon’s government has taken us back into the 19th century world of food adulteration, in his words: “amazing.”

🌟 TESLA AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES CONTROVERSY

✳ Tesla Cut Down Half-A-Million Trees For a Factory

Tesla cleared the trees from more than 800 acres of forest in Germany in order to build its Berlin gigafactory

Between 2020 and 2023, Tesla (TSLA) felled more than 500,000 trees on the outskirts of Berlin in order to make space for its German gigafactory. If left in place, the trees would have absorbed enough CO2 to offset the emissions of almost 3,000 cars every year.

Now, the full extent of the tree felling has been mapped via satellite images of the site, reports the Guardian. According to the British news outlet, Tesla has felled trees across 813 acres of forest between March 2020 and May 2023. According to estimates, that accounts for the loss of approximately 500,000 trees over the three-year period:

Karolina Drzewo, from the campaign alliance Turn Off Tesla’s Tap, said the analysis showed the company’s production of electric vehicles had caused local destruction of nature as well as global damage through mining for metals. “In one of the driest regions in Germany, too much of the environment has already been destroyed,” she said. “An expansion and thus even more destruction of forests and endangerment of the protected drinking water area must be prevented.”

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.

🌟 FACIAL RECOGNITION AND AI MONITORING IN INDIA

✳ Facial recognition and AI Monitoring Deployed in India’s Largest Railway Network

India’s rail networks are adding AI and facial recognition systems to their stations, part of a growing biometrics and surveillance market experts predict will be worth more than US$15 billion within the next five years.

A release from IDIS Global says the South Korean video surveillance manufacturer is providing Indian Railways, Asia’s largest rail network, with a 4K camera system equipped with integrated AI video analytics and facial recognition technology from Herta Security. The first phase of a major technology update for the rail system saw cameras placed across hundreds of platforms in 230 high-traffic stations across the country’s eastern region in May 2024.

Herta Security’s facial recognition algorithms provide real-time identification and alerts to persons-of-interest. IDIS’s configurable deep learning analytics system analyzes motion, loitering, abandoned object detection and line crossing. With a monitoring center installed at every fifth station along the network, railway authorities have a connected ecosystem of command and control hubs through which to monitor, analyze data and respond to crisis events.

Indian Railways 14,000 trains carry an estimated 9.5 million passengers daily. The network expects to handle up 40 percent of global rail activity by 2050.

Railway lines in Delhi are also acting on AI. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has plans to deploy AI as part of an initiative to improve efficiency and crowd management, according to a report in the Economic Times. DMCR Managing Director Vikas Kumar says AI for driverless trains is part of the plan, along with amped up facial recognition and CCTV camera surveillance.
