🌟 The Origin of “Turtling”
Susan was inspired by the idea that small, consistent, and deliberate daily actions—like a turtle’s careful steps—could make a huge difference over time. Rather than rushing or reacting in fear to the increasing push for digital payment systems, she chose a grounded and intentional path:
Turtling meant carrying cash in her wallet every day.
It meant talking to store owners, asking, “Do you still take cash?”
It meant saying no to cards, even if it was slightly inconvenient.
It meant educating others gently, through repetition, conversation, and example—just like a turtle keeps moving forward, one quiet footstep at a time.

The turtle symbolizes:

Protection (of sovereignty and privacy)
Longevity in movements that endure
Susan chose the word because it was accessible, non-confrontational, and even a little playful—making activism feel doable, even for people who didn’t see themselves as political.

“How are you turtling for cash this week?”
And it worked. From humble steps, it led to policy influence—like the South Dakota bill requiring schools to accept cash—and sparked grassroots traction in other states.
